How To Install Bilstein 5100 Rear Shocks

  1. if anyone could provide the instructions on the install of the rear bilstein Part Number:24-186728 that would be greatly appreciated. I purchased mine off Amazon and did not come up with the instructions. I don't really need the know how just basically which washer goes where. When I took my previous shocks off I noticed the bottom condom bushing had a nipple on it forth with the washer but the new ones don't have the singled-out look. Merely I do know that these shocks are the ones for my truck. Basically information technology came with two prophylactic bushings, three washers one being black the other two alluminum color with the one that had a lip on information technology which I'm pretty sure is the on that goes in the saucepan and obviously the nut for the top. Capeesh the help. Just want to make sure I take installed everything the right style and I have looked everywhere with no luck.

    These are my old ones:

The new ones take the black washer on peak, the 2 silver on the lesser (those are mounted beneath the frame, black washer, and bushing are mounted above the frame).

  3. Ok so I was right and then. I mounted them equally so from top to lesser, nut black washer and so bushing on meridian. Below bucket was the silver washer with the lilliputian amount of lip on it, bushing then the other silver washer? My adjacent question would be how tight to tighten them. I know the torque specs say 20lbs merely yous become the same resistance until you lot bottom out the rubber bushings which I know it's not correct. And so what I did was plough the nut so about a 1/4 of the threads are showing and near 1/4-one/2 of the bushing compressed. Am I correct on that part or should I loosen or tighten the nut at all. I just don't want the bushing being pinched to much nor to little. And I appreciate the relief of how the washers are supposed to go. I just guested on that role and luckily got it correct. Well unless you lot say other wise in your response! Lol

Here's the currently installed movie for reference:

Annotation that the bushing is squashed to the point where it fills the diameter of the washer.

  5. About how much of stud do you have sticking out? I know it will exist different from truck to truck. I but information technology kind of odd that the stock washer had the lilliputian lip ane the washer and bushing that went into the bottom off the bucket and the new Billy's didn't come that way. The top lesser washer had a pocket-size roll to it and the bushing was completely flat. Is that how yours was or did I get the wrong associates equipment?

You were supplied with the right parts. If your one-time washers aren't corroded, use them if desired. They're probably meliorate quality than the ones bilstein supplied. Your washer/bushing social club is right. Essentially you don't desire the shock to walk around in the seat. Use common sense. Tighten the nut down till the bushing compresses some then give the shock a tug to check for tightness. That's it.
  7. Thanks for the help. Final question did u terminate upwards using ur old washers and bushings or did you use the newly supplied ones?

I used the supplied ones, simply kept the old if I needed them ever, they were in decent shape. I live in an area where the roads are salted during the winter and washers like that corrode.
  9. Thank you for your aid man. At least I accept some piece of mind now!

Are they different sizes? I had mine installed and the rear passenger'south kick keeps coming off and the commuter side is mode downwards.
whatsoever numbers or something to corroborate that they are installed properly?

Nice. Thank you for the picture of the bushing, washer, nut order. (doing mine at the moment)

Edit: Done! Installation went great; I only needed to cut off the nut on one shock when the summit stub broke off. Surprisingly, the OEM shocks with 276,000 miles on them still had a little life left in them, merely nil similar the new Bilsteins. I idea the OEM shocks would have no gas in them and collapse but they rebounded slowly on their ain when compressed and released on the garage flooring.

Hmm. @HeadStrong Off-Road sent me a different bushing installation kit: B4-KT1-Z103A00, which doesn't take the black washer, and both argent washers are the aforementioned. Looks similar I'll have to take it apart and replace. :der:

Disregard my previous post. In one case I had them installed, head strong got back in bear upon with me a reassured me it was the correct kit. No issues after 5 trails, and 6k Miles I've added since the elevator.

    Quick question - @hobiesan

Then I believe that I have these washers & bushings oriented properly (thanks to this thread). My curiosity/question is this. For that washer that sits on top of the bushing directly under the rear shock mount (the middle silver one), in that location's a dimple on the peak. Is the mounting hole/bracket on the truck shaped to accept that so it's sits flush & snug upward in there?

Yes, that washer should fit nicely in the upper mount. At that place should have been a diagram on the hardware pouch or in the box the rears came in.

I can't say for certain, every bit mine used a unlike hardware kit where the safe bushing goes direct confronting the underside of the upper shock mountain. I did extensive research on this considering I thought I might accept the wrong parts. Turns out there are 2 dissimilar hardware kits, and the general consensus from everyone was: "only brand sure you have rubber on both sides, and call it a day."

    Hmmmmm....

Similar above, there was no diagram included.

All of the diagrams I've constitute (for the kit included with the 5100'southward and fifty-fifty the OEM shocks) shows a retaining washer (#3 below) to a higher place the bushing under the shock mount.
